Karla Knutson: Reversible Puffed Square Silver Necklace With 24k Gold Keum Boo & 18” Stainless Neck Cable. This necklace is made from sterling silver sheet that I roller printed and brush textured and is fully reversible. 24k gold foil was added using the Keum Boo technique to both sides. The asymmetrical pattern of gold can be turned 4 ways on each side according to your preference. Finally a blue/black patina was applied with liver of sulfur and the piece was waxed to help preserve the patina, although that may change slightly with time and is susceptible to scratching. The hollow form is approximately 1 3/4 " square and 3/8" deep at the center of the squares. The 18" stainless steel neck cable has a lobster claw clasp. Marianne Pickett: Spring Spirit Necklace Spring Spirit Necklace marries the beauty of a traditional Chinese porcelain shard with triple strands of beads. Turquoise, flourite, and strawberry quartz are highlighted with sterling silver beads and findings. This opportunity came to us via metalsmith and lapidarist Sky Paxton in Northern California. He donates jewelry to a fundraiser auction for Guadelupe Home, a transitional shelter for pregnant and parenting mothers who find themselves homeless. This year, he invited us to join him in finished, boxed pieces valued between $150-$500.
From Sky, "This will be my second year giving jewelry pieces to this charity for their annual auction. You are making a donation of your piece so its deductible from your taxes at a fair market value and they will provide a letter for this. The advantage to us is that in the artist Bio, we can include your website or contact info so you can accept future work commissions. Last year I donated 10 pieces that raised about $3200 for them. My lifelong shipmate and rockhound partner sits on the board for them. This is how I became involved. They only have enough time in the evening to auction 8 pieces. Their dinner is in May". Rather than providing emergency shelter for a night or two, Guadelupe Home offers a safe, long-term, no-cost home for pregnant and parenting mothers of children under three who are interested in making changes for a better future. Learn more at ccaosa.org/guadalupe-home/. It's not too late to participate, the deadline to have your piece to Sky is April 25th. He will submit them to the auction folks and then let us know how it all works out after the events.
