Silke Espinet
Artist's Statement
While previously I worked predominantly in silver and gold, I have fallen in love with some new techniques that I learnt during the lockdown. I am a jewellery artist based in London. Searching the internet I came across many interesting and fascinating jewellery courses in the U.S. that suddenly became available to me, as they were held online. The pieces entered into this competition are electro-formed copper with organic materials, and precious and semi precious stones. I am passionate about the protection of the environment and wild animals, and use fair trade and recycled materials and stones wherever possible. I make sure to recycle everything that can be recycled! After having been a mother to my two wonderful daughters for a number of years, I realised that I couldn't go back to my previous high pressured job, and decided to follow my dream of studying jewellery design and making. I graduated from London Metropolitan University in 2012 with a City and Guilds Diploma and a Foundation Degree in Jewellery, Design and Silversmithing. The electro-forming classes were held by Terry Henry.
